Pastor Brent became the senior pastor of Colonial in 2016. He and his wife Carissa moved to Virginia Beach from Minneapolis along with their five children. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and cheering for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.
Brent loves preaching and teaching the Scriptures and developing future church leaders. His desire to serve the church and academy led him to complete doctoral degrees in pastoral ministries (D.Min., Northland International University) and New Testament studies (Ph.D., Ridley College, Melbourne). Brent's central pastoral burden is to equip the members of Colonial Baptist Church for the work of the ministry and the building up of the body of Christ.
Amid the busyness of pastoral ministry, Brent occasionally reviews biblical resources (for the Gospel Coalition, Master's Seminary Journal, etc.), enjoys attending academic, evangelical conferences (e.g., Evangelical Theological Society, Institute of Biblical Research), and teaching biblical exposition courses and workshops at several seminaries and pastor's meetings worldwide, including teaching in and chairing the DMin in Biblical Exposition program at Virginia Beach Theological Seminary. In his free time, Brent loves studying the New Testament's use of the Old and Trinitarian theology.
Pastor Brent makes resources for Bible study available on the church website (click here).
